a bit of background
Norway is officially called the Kingdom of Norway, or Kongeriket Norge in Norwegian. It is a constitutional monarchy, and its current head of state is His Majesty King Harald V of Norway. The current head of government is Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg. It is a large country, located above Sweden and Denmark with a population of 4.9 million people and an area of about 385,199 square km (159 square mi). Its capital is Oslo, and the official language is Norwegian (also a language called Sami in some areas). The official church is the Church of Norway, which is Evangelical Lutheran. The official currency is the kroner. 1 krone is worth .17 USD or .13 Euros. Norway adopted its own constitution on May 17, 1814 and has fared very well since then.
I chose to do this project on Norway because of a personal connection. Some close friends of our family lived in Oslo for a very long time, and I remember them always sending us postcards. I never knew too much about Norway when I was younger, and I was curious about how life was there, so I decided to learn about it.
